Brittany House

This 1990s house in Brittany had great vibes, but the décor felt heavy — textured yellow walls, dark wood ceilings, beams and doors, terracotta floors, and no fewer than four different carpets upstairs. We gave it a complete makeover, hiding what needed to be hidden and enhancing the original features that could be enhanced. Only the most interesting beams were left visible, the wooden spiral staircase was replaced with a lighter, open steel design, and warm grey polished concrete was poured over the tiled floor to unify and brighten the space. A steel-framed window now separates the kitchen and dining area, letting in light while defining the space. Two bathrooms were reconfigured, and the top floor was redecorated in a soft, neutral palette. Just a short walk from the sea, the house is now a bright and welcoming holiday home where every detail works to create a relaxing, comfortable space. Photo credit Caroline Morin.
