Balham Heaver Estate

Located in the Heaver conservation area in Balham, this semi-detached house was love at first sight. I wanted to preserve its beautiful period features while updating it for modern living. Untouched for almost fourty years, the property needed a thorough refresh. I designed a new extension with generous glazing and a pitched roof, relocating the kitchen into this bright, open space. The ground floor now includes a sitting room, dining room, a large open-plan kitchen and family area, and a laundry room. I was also responsible for transforming the upper floors, creating a third bathroom, designing bespoke joinery, and sourcing all materials and new furniture. The transformation was featured in Homes & Gardens’ Dream Bathrooms and in a Houzz Home Tour in 2016. The result is a home that balances its historic charm with modern functionality and light-filled living spaces. Photo credit Valérie Bernardini.
